Tecno Unveils Revolutionary Phantom Ultimate Prototype
Tecno has introduced its groundbreaking Phantom Ultimate prototype at the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 in Barcelona, showcasing a rollable display. Unlike conventional foldable phones, this innovative concept from the Chinese tech giant presents a distinctive form factor. The Phantom Ultimate offers a 6.55-inch display that seamlessly expands to 7.11 inches with a simple tap, providing users with enhanced flexibility and an immersive viewing experience.
Presented to Gadgets360 at MWC 2024, the device boasts a 6.55-inch display that curves around the left edge. With the press of a button, an impressive 7.11-inch AMOLED screen emerges from the handset in just 1.3 seconds, delivering a tablet-sized display and elevating the user experience.

In its retracted state, the handset features a dual-sided display, with the screen wrapping horizontally around the back to display time and notifications. Measuring 9.93mm in thickness, the Tecno Phantom Ultimate supports customizable dynamic wallpapers, desktop effects, and an always-on display (AOD). The 7.11-inch display boasts a resolution of 1,596×2,296 pixels and a pixel density of 388ppi, featuring a dynamic low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) display that covers 100 percent of the DCI-P3 TYP wide color gamut and offers a refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz.
While the release of the Tecno Phantom Ultimate to the general market may not be imminent given its conceptual nature, the emergence of rollable technology signals a new era for slideable phones. Other brands such as Vivo, Oppo, Motorola, LG, and Samsung have also unveiled similar concepts in recent years, with Motorola even presenting a rollable Rizr concept phone with a display that can wrap around wrists.
